Recreation Center

The Clarke County Recreation Center building features a multi-purpose room, fitness room, gymnasium, arts and crafts room with kitchen facilities, and offices for park employees. The Recreation Center is open to the public during hours listed below. The building may close on some federal holidays.

Pets — except certified assistance animals — are not permitted in the Recreation Center.

Children 8 and under must be supervised by someone at least 14-years old. 

The Clarke County Recreation Center is located at 225 Al Smith Circle in Chet Hobert Park, south of West Main Street (Business 7), opposite the Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds in Berryville, Va.

Clarke County Recreation Center general admission rates are $2.50 for ages 3 to 5; $3 for ages 6 to 15; $4 for ages 16 to 54; and $2.50 for ages 55 and older. Discount passes are available for Clarke County residents. 

Gymnasium is perfect for basketball, volleyball, walking, jogging, indoor soccer, and creative movement for toddlers. The 75-by-94-foot gymnasium seats 225 people, and can be divided in half: the 75-by-46-foot side has bleacher seating for 100 people; the 75-by-48-foot side has bleacher seating for 125 people. The gymnasium is available special events by reservation. Only non-marking athletic shoes may be worn in the gymnasium.

November 2024 Gym Schedule

Fitness Room includes a variety of cardiovascular and fitness equipment such as stationary exercise bicycles, elliptical machines and cross-trainers, treadmills, multi-station fitness systems, and dumbbells. A television and stereo are also available. The center offers weekly fitness classes and personal training. Children 15 and under must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian in the fitness room.

Arts & Crafts Room is an ideal place for small gatherings of up to 40 people. The kitchen has a refrigerator-freezer, oven, and stove. Tables and chairs are provided.

Multi-Purpose Room seats 55 and is perfect for informal business or club meetings, birthday parties, and bridal showers. The room has a dry-erase board. Tables, chairs, PA system, television, VCR, DVD player, and projectors are available.

Active Living Center seats more than 100 people and is an ideal location for informal business or club meetings, birthday parties, bridal showers, and receptions. Tables, chairs, PA system, television, VCR, DVD player, and projectors are available. Access to the attached kitchen requires an additional rental fee. Note: The room is used by the Clarke County Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Contact the Senior Center at (540) 955-3572 or clarkesc@shenandoahaaa.com.

Reservations can be made up to three months in advance. When scheduling a reservation, allow enough time for decorating and removing decorations. Reservations canceled 30 days in advance receive a full refund. Reservations canceled less than 30 days before the reserved date receive a 50 percent refund. Rental Fees

Full Gymnasium: $80 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $70 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $160 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $140 per hour for Clarke County residents.

Half Gymnasium: : $50 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $40 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $100 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $80 per hour for Clarke County residents.

Arts & Crafts Room: $40 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $30 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $80 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $60 per hour for Clarke County residents.

Multi-Purpose Room: $40 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $30 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $80 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $60 per hour for Clarke County residents.

Active Living Center: $75 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $65 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $150 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $130 per hour for Clarke County residents.

ALC Kitchen: $40 per hour for non-Clarke residents; $30 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $80 per hour for non-Clarke residents and $60 per hour for Clarke County residents.

Entire Facility (excluding Active Living Center): $120 per hour up to 8 hours ($60 each additional hour) for non-Clarke residents; $100 per hour up to 8 hours ($50 each additional hour) for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations. Commercial activities are $240 per hour up to 8 hours ($120 each additional hour) for non-Clarke residents and $200 per hour up to 8 hours ($100 each additional hour) for Clarke County residents.

Supervisor Fee: $20 per hour; no discounts.

Rental fees above apply to personal use. Any private individual or organization that charges fees while using park facilities must pay 15 percent of gross profits to Clarke County Parks & Recreation.
