Maintenance Department

Before calling for help regarding street signs or road issues in Clarke County, please scroll down to find the correct contact: Clarke Maintenance Department, VDOT, IDSP, Town of Berryville, or Town of Boyce. Different agencies respond to different situations.

Clarke County Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance of all county- and school-owned government buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. It plows county-owned parking lots after snowstorms. The Maintenance Department replaces downed street signs that identify road names (green signs with white lettering denoting public roads and brown signs with white lettering denoting private roads). Contact (540) 955-5118 or rmiller@clarkecounty.gov.

The Maintenance Department also manages the Clarke County Convenience Center for household trash.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is responsible for all other road signs such as stop signs, yield signs, speed limit signs, highway signs, etc. VDOT maintains Clarke County roads, including construction, paving, repairs, and snow removal. Clarke County government does not own snow removal equipment for county roads nor does it have a designated budget for snow removal. Report road issues to VDOT using this form.

Integrated Directional Signing Program (IDSP) is the designated contractor for VDOT. IDSP maintains blue service-specific signs located along interstate highways and tourist-oriented directional signs pointing travelers to businesses, services, and facilities along primary and secondary roadways (not interstates). IDSP also maintains signs for historic destinations (brown signs with white lettering) and historical markers (black lettering on silver background).

As an “urban locality” of more than 3,500 residents, the Town of Berryville maintains its secondary streets. Berryville has its own snow removal equipment. Contact (540) 955-1099 or customerservice@berryvilleva.gov.

The Town of Boyce hires snowplow drivers for streets within town limits. HOAs in the town’s three subdivisions provide snow removal. Contact (540) 837-2901 or townadministrator@boyceva.net.

The Clarke County Maintenance Department is located at 370 Westwood Rd. in Berryville, Va.
