Building Department

The Clarke County Building Department enforces the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all residents in areas related to the design, construction, and use of buildings, structures, pools, etc.

The department reviews and approves work that requires permits throughout Clarke County, including the incorporated towns of Berryville and Boyce. Property owners within the Town of Berryville may need to consult with its Town Planner prior to construction.

The department inspects projects during construction and issues final approval before occupancy or use.

Once a permit application is submitted, allow 20 to 30 business days for all plans review and permit processing.

A minimum notice of 3 to 5 business days is required for inspection requests. When scheduling an inspection by phone, include the permit number, property owner’s name, job site address, type of inspection, desired date for inspection, and a daytime phone number.

Find permits and more information using the links at left. If using a smartphone, jump to subpage.

The Building Department is located in the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center (first floor) at 101 Chalmers Ct. in Berryville. Call (540) 955-5112.
