Fire & EMS Commission

Note: After a Public Hearing on Jan. 16, 2024, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved text amendments to Chapter 17 of the Code of Clarke County – Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Emergency Management. As amended, Chapter 17 removes all references to the Fire and EMS Commission, effectively dissolving the Commission originally formed in 2014. At the request of the three volunteer fire companies, the Fire and Rescue Advisory Group (FRAG) now replaces the Commission. FRAG’s purpose is to promote communication and coordination among the volunteer companies and the county. It will provide recommendations to the Board of Supervisors as needed. Clarke County has a combination fire and rescue system in which volunteers and paid county staff work together to answer calls.

The nine-member Fire & EMS Commission was composed of the Chief of Fire, EMS & Emergency Management, firefighters, paramedics, elected county officers, and civilian staff. The Commission was formed in 2014 to develop and implement a strategic plan for the countywide fire and EMS system.
