“Saving Place, Saving Grace” Film and “Berryville Celebrates” Quilt Raffle at the Barns of Rose Hill (95 Chalmers Ct., Berryville) is a FREE event that celebrates both the town and Clarke County. Throughout 2023, Berryville marked its 225th anniversary with programs, exhibits, and parade. A ticket will be drawn prior to the film, and someone will win a beautiful commemorative quilt created by the Apple Valley Needle Threaders Quilt Guild. You do not need to be present to win, but you do need a ticket ($5 each). Visit the Barns or go online to www.barnsofrosehill.org/community-education/berryville-quilt-raffle? Everyone in attendance on Sept. 17 receives a raffle ticket, too, for the chance to win “Berryville Celebrates” T-shirts and commemorative wine and pint glasses.
At 1 p.m. (after the raffles), enjoy “Saving Place, Saving Grace.” The one-hour documentary film focuses on Clarke County’s Holy Cross Abbey at Cool Spring Farm, a property along the Shenandoah River. The monks there set priorities to protect the health of the river, restore natural habitats with native species, place the 1,200-acre property in conservation easement, and make their industrial kitchen — a primary source of income for the monks — more energy-efficient.
