Clarke County’s first-ever Groundhog Day Celebration is a FREE family event beginning at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds (890 W. Main St., Berryville) and featuring a prognosticating groundhog making a weather prediction at 10 a.m. Folklore says if groundhog sees his shadow on Feb. 2 and returns to his hole, we can expect six more weeks of winter-like weather. If he does not see his shadow, spring weather will arrive early. Event partners are the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, Valley Wildlife Care, Shenandoah Country Q102, and the Clarke County Economic Development and Tourism office.
