The Clarke County Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing in the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center second-floor main meeting room, 101 Chalmers Ct., Berryville, Va., at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, to consider the following matter:
PH2022-15: TA-22-03 Historic Overlay District Demolition Criteria: A proposed text amendment to amend Section 6.2.5B-4 (Certificate of Appropriateness) of the Zoning Ordinance (Code of Clarke County Chapter 200, Article I). The purpose of the text amendment is to add review criteria for demolition projects that currently require a Certificate of Appropriateness. This only includes properties that are located within the existing Historic Overlay District. The new criteria is intended to provide clearer rules for the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) to follow during their review of demolition projects. The amendment includes eight criteria and defines what a demolition is. The criteria may require the applicant to submit a cost analysis and/or structural analysis for certain projects.
