Public Hearing: Proposed Septic System Ordinance Amendment

  • Date: 12/21/2021 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The Clarke County Board of Supervisors will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, in the Main meeting room, second floor, Berryville-Clarke County Government Center, 101 Chalmers Ct., Berryville, Va., to consider proposed amendments to Code of Clarke County Chapter 143 – Septic System Ordinance.

The purpose of the amendments is to update requirements based on changes to onsite system technology and issues identified by staff and Virginia Department of Health (VDH) personnel. The last major update to the Ordinance was in 2010 in response to changes to the Code of Virginia requiring localities to permit Alternative Septic Systems. Major proposed changes include requiring 100% inspections of all new systems and component replacement of existing systems, and deleting unused or unenforceable sections such as temporary pump and haul.

Any person desiring to speak on the above matter should appear at the Public Hearing on Dec. 21. Written copies of statements and questions are requested but not required. Clarke County does not discriminate on the basis of handicapped status in admission to its programs and activities. Accommodations will be made for handicapped persons upon prior request. For more information, contact the Department of Planning (Berryville-Clarke County Government Center second floor) weekdays from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. at (540) 955-5132.
