Unauthorized discharge into sewer
The following items are some, not all, examples of items that SHOULD NOT be placed down drains or toilets: Glass, Cloth, Metal, Plastic, Diapers, Seafood shells, Sanitary Napkins, Tampons, Hair Clippings, Explosives, Strong Chemicals, Gasoline, Antifreeze, Flammable Materials, Paint, Grease, Cooking Fat/Oil, Degreasing Solvent, and Motor Oil.
- Discharge of groundwater, rainwater, or any water that is not metered by the Authority, shall be deemed an unauthorized use of the system. This includes the connection of sump pumps, gutters, and storm water drains to the system. Any unauthorized use of the system is punishable by a fine up to one thousand dollars ($1,000.00). All discharges to the sanitary sewer shall be through an authorized and approved service connection to the sewer main and shall comply with all Sewer Use Ordinances found in the Code of Clarke County, Virginia.
- No grease-cutting enzymes/chemicals shall be discharged into the sewer system. No materials and/or substances, which contain more than 100 milligrams per liter of non-biodegradable oils of mineral or petroleum origin, shall be discharged into the sewer system. Any person in violation may be responsible for any associated repair costs and may face a fine.
