The constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Registration is closed during the 29 days before an election. Please see the Elections Calendar for registration deadlines.
Virginia law requires every voter voting in person to show identification or sign a statement, subject to felony penalties for false statements pursuant to §24.2-1016 of the Code of Virginia, that the person is the named registered voter. Other ID requirements apply when voting in a Federal Election.
Acceptable identification includes your Virginia voter registration card, social security card, valid Virginia driver's license, or any other identification card issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States; or any valid employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter.
